AMD (an abbreviation for Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.) is an American integrated electronics company. AMD is the largest supplier of GPUs, motherboard chipsets and flash memory; as well as the second largest manufacturer of x86 and x64-compatible processors. The company's main competitor is Intel; however, with a high level of product quality and performance, AMD strives to make its prices more affordable. AMD began its activities in 1969 with the production of logic integrated circuits. In 2006, a merger took place with the developer of graphics chips ATI, and in 2007 AMD began producing its own graphics chips. In the same year, the first quad-core Phenom X4 processors appeared. The company develops software, optimizing it for its platforms.
